What this tool does

The converter finds the real colors of your JPEG and outlines each shape as an editable SVG path: real vectors, not a picture wrapped in an SVG. JPEG blur and blocky compression noise are cleaned up, so they don't turn into extra colors. A JPEG has no transparent areas, so its white or colored backdrop becomes a shape unless you turn on Remove background. Logos, scans and flat illustrations trace well; photos come out as flat areas of color.

Inputs, outputs and limits

Input

JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg), PNG, WebP and HEIC are accepted by the same converter

Output

SVG (path-based, editable)

Limits

Up to 25 MB and 24 megapixels per image. Processing stops after 180 s. Images over 2048 px on the long side are scaled down to 2048 px before tracing.

How it works

1

Upload the JPEG

Drop a .jpg or .jpeg file on the upload box. Use the largest, least compressed copy you have: every re-save as JPEG adds new artifacts.

2

Set colors and background

Set the color count to the colors you can see (4–8 suits most logos) and turn on Remove background if the backdrop should not become a shape.

3

Check the preview, then unlock

The watermarked preview of the whole trace is free. Unlocking the clean SVG costs 1 credit; accounts get 3 free credits.

Troubleshooting

JPEG artifacts show up as speckles

Keep the color count low (4–8) for logos, so the noise joins the main colors. The Standard preset also cleans up tiny specks on its own.

The white background became a shape

JPEG has no transparency, so a white backdrop is traced like any other color. Click “Remove background & re-vectorize” under the result, or turn on Remove background and convert again. It removes the backdrop from the edges inward and keeps anything enclosed by the artwork.

Edges look soft or wobbly

Tracing does not add resolution. A small or heavily compressed JPEG gives rounder, softer outlines: upload a larger original if you have one, and lower the color count so edge noise joins the main colors.

Why does my photo look posterised?

Tracing turns an image into a few flat colors. Photos and gradients have thousands, so they come out looking like a poster. Flat logos, icons and illustrations trace best.
