What this tool does
Builds a complete favicon set from one piece of artwork: a multi-size favicon.ico, PNG favicons, an SVG favicon when the source is a vector SVG, an opaque Apple touch icon on your background color, and web app icons in two kinds: transparent ones for general use and full-bleed maskable ones whose artwork stays inside the safe zone that launchers do not crop. The ZIP also holds site.webmanifest and favicon.html, the link and meta tags to paste into your pages, with paths for the folder you choose. A PNG, JPG or WebP upload gets every PNG and ICO file but no SVG favicon; this tool does not trace images.
For safety, scripts, event handlers, animation, embedded HTML (foreignObject), link targets (the linked artwork itself stays), references to other files, images that are not embedded PNG, JPEG or WebP, and CSS rules that load other files or fonts are removed. If your file contained any of these, the result lists exactly what was removed.

Limits
Files up to 8 MB; raster images up to 24 megapixels, normalized to 1,536 px before export. It makes favicon.ico with 16, 32, 48 px images, PNG favicons at 16 and 32 px, a 180 px Apple touch icon and 192 and 512 px app icons, each also as a maskable icon whose artwork stays inside the safe zone (a centred circle, 40% of the icon's size in radius). Processing limit: 30 s.
How it works
Name it and pick colors
The name and short name go into the web manifest. The theme color is the tint some browsers give their interface; the background color fills the Apple touch icon and the maskable icons.
Upload the files and paste the tags
Put every file from the ZIP in the folder you gave as the path prefix, then paste the tags from favicon.html into the head of each page. The README in the ZIP says what each file is for.
Troubleshooting
Why is there no favicon.svg?
An SVG favicon is made only from an SVG that contains vector artwork alone. A PNG, JPG or WebP source, or an SVG that embeds a bitmap, gets the PNG and ICO favicons instead, and the result says so.
The old icon still shows
Browsers keep favicons in their cache for a long time. Open the page in a private window, or clear the site's data, to see the new files.
My logo looks small in the maskable icon
Launchers may crop a maskable icon to a circle, so the artwork is scaled to fit the circular safe zone. Lower the padding to make it larger; a round mark can fill the whole circle.
Does the path prefix change the manifest?
No. The icon paths inside site.webmanifest are relative to the manifest, so they work from any folder as long as the files stay together. The prefix sets the paths in favicon.html.
