WebP files are decoded in full, including the alpha channel. Transparent areas stay transparent in the traced SVG, so a WebP icon with a cut-out background becomes a vector with the same cut-out.

Troubleshooting
Why does my photo look posterised?
Tracing works by grouping pixels into a small number of flat color regions. Photographs and gradients have thousands of colors, so the result is a poster-style approximation. Flat logos, icons and illustrations trace best.
Small text or thin lines disappear
Very thin strokes (a few pixels wide) can merge with their surroundings. Upload the largest, sharpest original you have and raise the number of colors so the outline gets its own region.
The background became a filled shape
Turn on “Remove background” before converting: it drops the connected outer background region instead of tracing it as a shape.
