One PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC. A logo or flat graphic gets Flat background and a photo gets Subject (AI), or choose the mode yourself first.
Upload an image and get the subject on a transparent background. Subject (AI) works on photos, patterns and busy backdrops; Flat background removes a plain backdrop color exactly.
PNG · JPG · WEBP · HEIC · up to 25 MB · one image at a time
See a watermarked preview of the whole cut-out before you pay · Subject (AI) sends a copy of your image to an outside service that doesn't keep it; privacySubject (AI) uses AI to find the subject on any background and gives it soft, clean edges, with no fringe of the old background. Flat background doesn't use AI: it removes one plain backdrop color exactly, keeps everything enclosed by the artwork, and also removes a fake checkerboard “transparency” painted into the image. Either way you get a transparent PNG at your image's size, and you can turn the cut-out into an SVG. Making the SVG doesn't use AI.
PNG, JPEG, WebP or HEIC (one image)
Transparent PNG at the original size, with soft edges, or an SVG trace of the cut-out
Up to 25 MB and 24 megapixels per image. Processing stops after 180 s. Images over 2048 px on the long side are scaled down to 2048 px first; the PNG comes back at that size.
One PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC. A logo or flat graphic gets Flat background and a photo gets Subject (AI), or choose the mode yourself first.
A watermarked, downscaled preview of the cut-out appears on a checkerboard, usually within seconds. Not what you wanted? Try the other mode — each run is a free preview.
Unlock the full-size transparent PNG (1 credit), or vectorize the cut-out into an SVG.
Flat background when the backdrop is one plain color (a logo on white, a sticker on a colored sheet): it is exact and keeps every enclosed detail. Subject (AI) for everything else — photos, gradients, patterns, busy scenes. If you don't choose, the image decides: a logo or flat graphic on one plain color gets Flat background, anything else Subject (AI). If a Flat run finds the backdrop was not one color, the result says so and offers Subject (AI).
No. Only Subject (AI) uses AI, and only to tell the subject from the background. Turning an image into an SVG is not AI. Your images are never used to train anything.
With Subject (AI), a copy of your image goes over an encrypted connection to the service that runs the AI (the privacy policy names it); it is processed in memory and not stored there. The cut-out comes back here and is kept with your file, which is deleted after 24 hours for a guest or 30 days in an account. With Flat background, your image never leaves our servers.
The AI can fill in gaps only a few pixels wide, such as between letters or inside a ring. If the backdrop is one plain color, Flat background keeps them exactly.
On very busy backdrops, the AI can keep a fragment. Crop the image closer to the subject and run it again — each run is a free preview.
It has a daily limit per visitor and for the whole site, and pauses briefly after repeated errors. The page says which applies; Flat background always works.
Previews are free (5 a day as a guest, 100 with an account); Subject (AI) runs are limited to 3 a day as a guest and 25 with an account. Unlocking a result costs 1 credit — the price is stated before you unlock, and failed runs are never charged. Files are kept 24 hours for guests and 30 days in an account. See pricing.
