What should the source image look like?
Start with a simple mark that stays recognizable at small sizes. A transparent SVG or a large transparent PNG lets the generator separate your artwork from the solid background. A photograph can produce a usable flat icon, but its opaque rectangle also determines the monochrome silhouette. Increasing its output dimensions will not reveal detail absent from the upload.
Open the app icon generator, upload SVG, PNG, JPEG or WebP, and choose Android, iOS or both. Set a resource name such as ic_launcher, a background color and padding per side. The ZIP contains only the selected platforms and an import note. The tool uses private downloads and charges no credits for uploaded artwork or already unlocked results.
What is inside the Android package?
The package includes legacy mipmap PNGs at 48, 72, 96, 144 and 192 pixels, a 512-pixel Play Store image, and adaptive icon XML. Foreground artwork is placed on a transparent 432-pixel canvas representing 108 dp at xxxhdpi. The mark fits inside the central 66-dp safe region before your chosen padding is added. This gives launcher masks room without placing important artwork at the canvas edge.
Adaptive resources live in the API 26 directory. An API 33 variant adds a monochrome layer. The foreground and monochrome PNGs live in drawable-xxxhdpi; legacy resources remain in their matching mipmap density folders. Merge android/res into your app's existing resource directory, then set android:icon="@mipmap/ic_launcher" on the application, substituting your chosen name.
The themed icon is made from the source's alpha channel. A transparent triangle makes a triangular silhouette; a fully opaque photo makes a filled rectangle. That is a property of the input, not a subject-recognition feature. Remove the background or supply a purpose-made transparent mark when you need a shaped themed icon.
What is inside the iOS package?
The iOS folder contains AppIcon.appiconset with an opaque RGB image at 1,024 by 1,024 pixels and a Contents.json file. Add this set to your existing Xcode asset catalog and select AppIcon in the target settings. Xcode's single-size workflow derives the platform sizes from that source.
This exporter creates a flat asset catalog. It does not generate an Icon Composer .icon document, editable depth layers or Liquid Glass effects. Those require a separate design workflow. Keep the original artwork available if you plan to build layered variants later. For an ordinary image used inside your interface, choose an Xcode imageset instead of an app icon set.
Review before shipping
Inspect circle, squircle and other launcher masks on Android. Look at the monochrome result with themed icons enabled, and confirm that your foreground is not too small after padding. On iOS, inspect the icon in Xcode and on a device. Check the mark at small sizes, its contrast against the background and the absence of unwanted edges.
A generated package supplies resource files; it does not assess trademark rights, judge visual quality or promise store acceptance. Keep a copy of your existing resources before merging folders, and review the app's build output for name collisions or target-specific requirements.
